FAQ for HP 206A 206X Toner Cartridges

 

More and more people prefer to use compatible DIY HP 206 toner cartridge because the original cartridge is so expensive. However, the only disadvantage of the DIY HP 206 toner cartridge is that they need to install the chip and the printer can not show the ink-level. How to solve these problem? Let’s jump in!


What is the difference between HP 206A and 206X?

  • HP 206A Standard yield Black toner cartridge: Around 1,350 pages
  • HP 206X High yield Black toner cartridge: Around 3,150 pages
  • HP 206A Standard yield Cyan toner cartridge: Around 1,250 pages
  • HP 206X High yield Cyan toner cartridge: Around 2,450 pages
  • HP 206A Standard yield Magenta toner cartridge: Around 1,250 pages
  • HP 206X High Yield Magenta toner cartridge: Around 2,450 pages
  • HP 206A Standard yield Yellow toner cartridge: Around 1,250 pages
  • HP 206X High Yield Yellow toner cartridge: Around 2,450 pages

Whether it’s color or black, the page yield of HP 206X High Yield toner cartridge is around twice than the HP 206A Standard Yield Toner Cartridge. That means the service life of HP 206X is 2 times longer than the HP 206A. If you don’t want to change the cartridge frequently, or if you print more page in your daily life, It will be better to select HP 206X High yield toner cartridges.


What is the printer works with HP 206A?

The HP 206A is a standard yield cartridge and the HP 206X is the high yield version of the 206A. Both of them are compatible with same printer models: HP Color LaserJet Pro M255 series M255dw MFP M282 series M282nw MFP M283 series M283cdw M283fdw Printer.


How long can HP 206 last?

Generally speaking, the HP 206A 206X toner cartridge can be stored for 24-36 months without being opened, but it is also affected by temperature and humidity.

The service life of the ink cartridge is generally determined by the page yield. The page yield of HP 206A is 1,350 pages per black and 1,250 pages per color toner cartridge at 5% coverage(A4/Letter). HP 206X is 3150 page per black and 2450 pages per color toner cartridge at 5% coverage(A4/Letter).


How to install the chip for compatible 206A (W2110A) toner cartridge?

Before you replace the chip, you need to pay attention to whether your original toner cartridge is Structure A or Structure B, as shown in the figure below.

For Structure A, the chip is not fixed on the toner cartridge with glue, so it only needs to be cut off the plastic block for fixing the chip, and it is easy to take out the complete chip from the original toner cartridge.

Are HP 206A and 206X interchangeable?

The HP 206A and 206X are almost the same, except for their page yield. They are compatible with the same printer model, so they can be interchanged.


What to do when the printer cannot detecting the v4ink 206A toner cartridge?

If your printer can not detect the toner cartridge you just installed, please turn off the printer and remove the ink cartridge. Re-confirm the chip is installed in the correct direction. The chip should be aligned with the middle line. You can follow the video step by step:

Can I continue to print by refilling OEM cartridge without changing the chip?

No, the OEM cartridge is not refillable and you have to buy the replacement which is refillable. How to reset the chip so that the printer shows full cartridge?

After you install the new compatible toner cartridge into your printer, the printer may show ” Low toner” or “Used” because the chip has remembered the capacity of your old toner cartridge. But just need to ignore the message and print as usual. You can choose to ignore it for three months and continue printing until the color turns light.
